Lynchburg Rallies Past Men

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Host Lynchburg College kept its ODAC men's basketball record perfect on the season with an 81-70 victory over Shenandoah Saturday afternoon.

Shenandoah (3-2, 0-1 ODAC) got a game-high 32 points from junior Jared Carithers, but could not hold off Lynchburg (3-1, 2-0).

SU held a 37-35 halftime lead thanks to a 15-9 run over a span of 3:36 to finish the first half, but could only watch as LC scored eight of the initial 10 points of the second.

Shenandoah answered with a 10-4 run of its own in the middle of the second to take a 54-53 lead following a CJ Rudisill 3-pointer at 8:51, but the hosts answered with an Alex Graves layup 10 seconds later to retake the lead and never trailed again.

Graves' bucket started a 20-6 spurt for LC that gave it a 13-point, 73-60, lead with 2:46 remaining.

SU would be able to cut the deficit into single digits on two more occasions, the last on a Carithers layup with 34 seconds left, but would get no closer.

Carithers had 32 points on 10 of 25 shooting from the field (six 3-pointers) and a 6 of 8 performance from the line.

Avery Green, the ODAC's leading scorer, added 21 points and Rudisill 12 for Shenandoah.

Manny Hernandez had 18 and Graves 16 for the victors.

Lynchburg won the battle of the glass 47-43.

Shenandoah is off until hosting Guilford this coming Saturday at 4:00 in another ODAC contest.
