WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University men's basketball team snapped a three-game losing streak Sunday afternoon with a 64-54 non-league victory over Gettysburg.
Shenandoah (4-3) erased a seven-point halftime deficit in earning the win over the Bullets (3-5).
Trailing 35-28 following a Sango Amolo jumper at 17:03, the Hornets reeled off the game's next seven points in a span of 2:29 to tie it at 35-35 with 14:34.
Senior Avery Green, who had the tying bucket on a layup, was fouled on the play and hit the free throw to give SU its first lead since the 9:02 mark of the first.
But Shenandoah was not done.
The run continued with coach Rob Pryor's club scoring an additional seven straight points to take a 43-35 lead with 12:57 remaining.
The Hornets led the rest of the way and outscored GC 19-10 over the final 8:29 to coast home to the victory.
Shenandoah clinched the win with an outstanding performance at the line, hitting 17 of 23 shots from the charity stripe (74 percent) in the second half to prevent a Gettysburg comeback.
Green led the victors with 19 points while Jared Carithers added 15.
Xavier Alston had nine points and a team-high seven rebounds off the bench.
Connor Poston had 13 points and Cody Kiefer 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds for the Bullets.
The Hornets take to the road this week with games against Berry (Ga.) and Millsaps (Miss.) on Thursday and Saturday at the Daytona Shootout in Daytona Beach, Florida.
