WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's basketball team returns to action this evening for the first time in eight days with a 6:00 non-league game against Lebanon Valley.
Tonight's game is the final home game of 2013 for the squad. Following tonight's contest, the Hornets are not home again until hosting Guilford on January 7 in a 3:00 ODAC contest.
Tonight also marks the return of sophomores Sarah Dixon and Ashley McGhee to the active roster.
Dixon and McGhee, who played in 25 and 24 games, respectively, for coach C.K. Calhoun last season, return to the team after registering for classes for the spring semester.
Both women transferred from SU last summer, Dixon to Frederick Community College and McGhee to St. Francis, but each elected to return to school and to the program.
Dixon played in 25 games with one start and averaged 2.8 points and 2.0 rebounds in just more than 11 minutes of action per game.
McGhee started the final nine games of the year at point guard and played an average of 36.5 minutes per game during that span.
SU won four of those games with McGhee directing the team, including an overtime victory over Randolph-Macon that clinched a home game in the ODAC Tournament.
The Hornets come into tonight's game winners of two straight with both games coming in comeback fashion.
Last Saturday, Calhoun's club rallied from 13 down to defeat Emory and Henry 72-65.
Junior Holly Chittenden had her second straight double-double of the season with a career-high-tying 22 points and 12 rebounds while sophomore Imani Heggins had 20 points.
Heggins put her club in front to stay on a 12-foot jumper with 3:25 remaining.
Shenandoah is averaging 56.7 points per game and is shooting 37 percent from the field.
Lebanon Valley, which has won three straight MAC Commonwealth titles, enters the contest with a 6-1 overall record.
The Dutchmen have not played since defeating Widener 61-59 in MAC play on December 7.
Kelly Chaklos leads LVC with a 13.0 points per game average with Caitlin Bach posting a double-double at 10.3 points and rebounds each per game.
Lebanon Valley won last season's contest 75-45.
