LEXINGTON, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's basketball team completed its regular season with a 54-36 loss to Washington and Lee University Saturday afternoon.
The loss meant virtually nothing to the Hornets (11-14, 7-9 ODAC), as the squad was locked into the No. 6 seed at the upcoming ODAC Tournament regardless of the outcome of Saturday's game.
Shenandoah will host No. 11 Hollins on Monday at 7:00 in the opening round of the tournament while Washington & Lee (9-15, 6-10) will host No. 9 Emory and Henry in another first round contest.
The Generals broke open a tie game with a 15-8 run to finish the first half that gave themselves a 23-16 lead at the break.
W&L extended its advantage to 13 points by scoring 11 of the initial 16 points of the second and maintained a double-digit lead for all but 21 seconds for the remainder of the contest.
Junior Crystal Petrus, who had a team-high 11 points, brought SU to within eight with a layup at 8:52, but the Generals answered with the game's next 11 points to lead by 19 with 4:49 remaining.
W&L did not let its lead below 16 points the rest of the way.
Petrus, who had 31 points on Tuesday in a win over Randolph-Macon, was the only SU player in double figures with 11 points.
Katy Wilson had 12 points and Wesleigh Vick 10 for the hosts.
