Baseball Topples Mounties

WINCHESTER, Va. – No. 23/27 Shenandoah University earned its second straight baseball victory Monday afternoon with a 14-7 non-league win over Mount Aloysius.

Shenandoah (2-1) banged out 13 hits in the victory over the Mounties (0-1) and did all of its offensive damage in the first six innings.

Sophomore Corbin Lucas had the big blow for SU with a grand slam HR in the fifth.

Lucas' grand slam, the first of his career, made the score 11-3 in favor of the hosts.

The Hornets final runs came in the sixth as Nick Beall, Michael Paul and Joe Bittner led off the frame with doubles.

Freshman Phillip Morse (1-0), the first of five men to take the mound for SU on Monday, earned the win. He allowed three runs on five hits and one walk in 5.0 innings of work.

Morse also struck out eight, including two each in the second, fourth and fifth innings.

Steven Walker and Andrew Zarobila both had two strikeouts before Jon Nicholson and Cody Vorous combined to pitch the ninth.

Lucas, Beall, Bittner, Andrew Creamer and John Wilt all had two hits each for the victors with Lucas driving in four runs, Creamer two and Bittner and Wilt one each.

Shenandoah is off until hosting Susquehanna on Saturday in a non-league doubleheader.
