Men's Lax Dominates SUNYIT

WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University men's lacrosse team continued its strong start to the 2013 season with an 18-4 non-league victory over SUNYIT Sunday afternoon.

The triumph doubles last season's win total for SU (4-1).

The Hornets wasted little time in jumping on the Wildcats (0-5), as Colin Fowler scored a pair of goals in the opening 3:46 of the contest to give SU a lead it would not relinquish.

SUNYIT got its initial goal at 6:48 of the first, but this would be as close as the squad would get.

Shenandoah reeled off the next 13 goals, holding its visitors scoreless for 27:12, as it lead 15-1 following a Scotty Sweigart to Casey Edsall goal at 9:33 of the third.

The 'Cats scored three of the game's next four goals to close out the third stanza, but SU scored the only two goals of the fourth to coast home to the 14-goal victory.

Coach Mike Kruger had 13 different men register at least one point, led by freshman Matt Justice and his six-goal afternoon.

Fowler added three goals and two assists for five points while Bryan Pope posted two goals and two assists.

The Hornets outshot SUNYIT 58-24, had a 65-37 advantage in groundballs and won 16 of 25 faceoffs.

SU goalies Tyler Quinn and Brett Holmes combined for 12 saves.

Shenandoah hosts another SU, Southwestern (Texas) University, on Wednesday night at 7:00.
