WINCHESTER, Va. – Shenandoah University saw its nine-game softball winning streak snapped Sunday as Lynchburg swept SU in an ODAC doubleheader.
Lynchburg (13-4, 2-0 ODAC) rallied for a 6-5 victory in 10 innings in the opener before taking the nightcap 13-6 over SU (14-8, 4-2).
Shenandoah carried a 3-0 lead into the seventh inning of game one only to see Lynchburg two unearned runs with two outs to send the game into extra innings.
Both teams then scored single runs in the eighth and ninth before LC secured the victory by holding SU off the board in the 10th.
Stephanie Cameron (9-2) was the hard luck loser, as she allowed six runs (only two earned) on four hits and three strikeouts in 10.0 innings.
Cameron struck out six.
Brittany Guepe and Heather Sink paced the host's offense with three hits each while Morgan Coble added two.
Defense was again an issue in the nightcap as six errors in the second inning left to eight unearned runs for Lynchburg on its way to the 13-6 victory.
Shenandoah attempted to battle back with two runs in the second, one in the third and two in the fourth, but could get no closer than a five-run deficit.
Senior Lauren McCabe was 3 for 4 with three RBI, Kimberly Brady 2 for 3 and Guepe 2 for 3 with an RBI.
Megan Tripp (5-2) took the loss. Only one of the 10 runs she allowed was earned and she struck out four in 4.0 innings of work.
SU hosts Eastern Mennonite on Wednesday in another ODAC doubleheader.
