WINCHESTER, Va. – Shenandoah University continued its initial ODAC softball slate by splitting a doubleheader with Eastern Mennonite Wednesday afternoon.
Shenandoah (15-9, 5-3 ODAC) was a 4-2 victor in the opener before EMU (10-7, 1-2) came back to win 17-6 in the nightcap.
Game two was halted after five innings due to the NCAA mercy rule.
The game one win, thanks in large part to 11 strikeouts from junior Stephanie Cameron (10-2), is the 199th of head coach Marlena Kotynski's career.
Eastern Mennonite actually scored the initial runs of the first game, scoring two runs in the top of the fourth before SU answered with three in the bottom of the frame.
Senior Lauren McCabe drove in all three runs with a two-out double to left.
She also drove in the final run of the game with an infield single in the sixth.
The Royals made quick work of game two by scoring 12 runs on seven hits and two crucial Hornets errors.
Junior Brittany Guepe had three hits with Ashley Crawford, Morgan Coble and Kimberly Brady adding two each.
Guepe and Crawford also drove in runs.
Megan Tripp (5-3) took the loss after allowing eight runs (two earned) four hits and one walk in 1 2/3 innings of work.
Tripp struck out two.
Shenandoah is back in action on Saturday at Virginia Wesleyan in another ODAC doubleheader.
