Softball Drops a Pair

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Shenandoah University completed its participation Saturday in the 2013 Virginia Wesleyan Beach Blast softball tournament by dropping a pair of one-run contests.

Shenandoah (4-4) saw former USA South Conference foe Methodist rally for a 4-3 victory in the second game of the day after the Hornets lost 5-4 to Frostburg State in Saturday's opener.

Methodist (6-3) trailed SU 3-1 with two outs in the seventh only to score three unearned runs off of Stephanie Cameron (2-1) and take the victory.

Ashley Crawford led off the bottom of the seventh with a single and was sacrificed to second, but remained stranded as Madison Bradley popped to second and Denise Mitchell grounded to short.

Juniors Erica Kondzielawa and Emily Wilson drove runs in the first inning of the MU game, Kondzielawa on a single to left and Wilson on a fielder's choice.

Heather Sink drove in the final run on a single to right in the sixth.

Kondzielawa and Wilson both had two hits.

Playing as the away team against Frostburg (3-1), Kondzielawa had a two-run single in the seventh to tie the game at 4-4, but the Bobcats rallied off of Brianne Morlock (0-1) with a leadoff double followed by a single to center.

Kondzielawa, Bradley and Brittany Guepe all had two hits with Guepe beating out two infield grounders.

Shenandoah is off until traveling to Salisbury, Maryland on Friday for the Sea Gull Classic. The Hornets will face Geneseo (N.Y.) State on Friday in a 6:00 contest.
