Softball Tops Geneseo State

SALISBURY, Md. - The Shenandoah University women's softball team opened its play at the Sea Gull Classic hosted by Salisbury University with a 5-1 victory over SUNY Geneseo Friday evening.

The Hornets (5-4) snapped a three-game losing streak with the win over the Knights (0-2).

SU scored two runs in the first, and after trading single runs with Geneseo in the sixth, scored a pair in the top of the seventh to secure the victory.

Junior Stephanie Cameron (4-1) struck out nine and allowed the one run on nine hits and two walks in the complete game victory.

Cameron registered her ninth and final strikeout for the final out of the contest.

Junior Brittany Guepe had three hits to lead the offense with classmate Erica Kondzielawa driving in runs in the first and seventh. Kondzielawa finished the night 2 for 4 with the two RBI.

The top four hitters in the Hornets lineup were a combined 7 for 14 with four RBI and four runs scored.

Shenandoah plays the host Sea Gulls, along with Scranton and Gettysburg, on Saturday to conclude the tournament.
