Kotynski Earns Win No. 200

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Shenandoah University Head Softball Coach Marlena Kotynski earned a milestone victory Friday afternoon as her Hornets split an ODAC doubleheader with Bridgewater.

Shenandoah (16-12, 6-6 ODAC) came back win the nightcap 3-1 after BC (10-8, 2-2) was a 2-0 victor in the opener.

The game two win not only salvaged the split for SU, it gave Kotynski her 200th career victory as the Hornets head coach.

Shenandoah earned the game two victory with three runs in the sixth inning off of Eagles starter Aven Thomas (3-4).

Junior Morgan Coble led off with a double down the left field line and scored on a Heather Sink single up the middle. Kimberly Brady then doubled to right to plate Sink before coming home on a Lauren McCabe single into short center that chased Thomas.

Junior Stephanie Cameron (11-5), who came on for Megan Tripp to start the fifth, closed out the milestone win by retiring six of the final seven batters of the contest.

Cameron struck out three in her three innings of work while Tripp did the same in four innings.

In the opener, BC starter Heather Jenkins (7-2) held the Hornets to just two hits in the shutout victory. Jenkins struck out five and walked one in the complete game performance.

Brittany Guepe and McCabe had the Hornets hits.

Cameron struck out 10 in four innings in the opener before turning it over to Amanda Litwin.

Shenandoah continues this ODAC road trip with a doubleheader next Saturday at Roanoke.
