CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Host Washington College kept its women's lacrosse record perfect on the 2013 season with a 17-9 non-league win over Shenandoah Saturday afternoon.
The Shorewomen (4-0) jumped out to a 3-0 lead and never looked back against the Hornets (1-1).
Shenandoah had cut its deficit to just two goals at 6-4 following a Liz Bereit free position goal at 12:02 of the first, but WC scored the next four goals to push its lead to 10-4 with 7:52 remaining.
Bereit snapped the drought with another free position tally, but SU would get no closer than three goals the rest of the way.
Junior Samantha Sisson, with free position goals at 3:06 and 2:12, made it that three-goal deficit before Washington again asserted control with a 3-0 run that sandwiched halftime.
The Hornets two second half goals, by Corrinne Kosmowski and Bereit, also came via free position.
Bereit paced SU with three goals with Sisson and Mary Kogler two each.
The Shorewomen outshot Shenandoah 40-18, scooped up 28 of the game's 42 groundballs and won 17 of 28 draws.
Ashley Cross had 14 saves for the Hornets.
SU is back in action on Tuesday at Frostburg State in another non-league contest.
