Baseball Tops Bison

WASHINGTON, D.C. – No. 25/25 Shenandoah University continued its winning ways Monday with a 11-3 non-conference baseball victory at Gallaudet University.

The Hornets (23-9) scored one run in the first to take a lead they would not relinquish over the Bison (14-17).

SU then extended its lead by three in the fifth, two in the sixth, seventh and ninth and one in the eighth.

The eventual winning run came home when sophomore Michael Paul lofted a fly ball to right that was dropped for an error, allowing two runs to score.

Gallaudet made matters interesting with two runs in the bottom of the fifth and one in the sixth, but Shenandoah answered each time in its next at-bat.

Freshman Billy Arens (4-1) threw the first inning to earn his second victory in the past six days. Arens allowed the three runs on 10 hits and two walks while striking out four.

Freshman Ryan Mossman worked a scoreless ninth to close out the victory.

Coach Kevin Anderson's club had 13 hits in the win, including three from second baseman J.J. McDaniel and two each from John Wilt, Corbin Lucas and Daniel Freshley.

McDaniel finished his day 3 for 4 and drove in two runs.

Marcus Smith (2-5) took the loss for GU. He gave up six runs (three earned) on nine hits and two walks in 6.0 innings pitched.

The Hornets host Washington and Lee tomorrow at 3:00 in an ODAC doubleheader. These two games are the final home games of the season for SU.
