Hockey Drops Heartbreaker

WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University field hockey team saw its seven-match winning streak come to an end Tuesday night with a 3-2 double overtime loss to Bridgewater.

Bridgewater (7-7, 3-1 ODAC) won it on a Taylor Prillaman goal in the 92nd minute to push the Eagles past SU (9-5, 4-1).

Prillaman took a feed from Shannon Strosser and ripped her shot past Hornets keeper Jenna Rampale and just inside the left post for the game-winner.

Prillaman's goal ended a contest in which the two teams traded the twice and were tied on two additional occasions.

Shenandoah sandwiched its two goals in regulation around Bridgewater's pair.

After the Eagles scored in the 18th minute, junior Kelani Bailey tied it for the Hornets on a penalty corner at the end of the first half.

With 0:00 showing on the clock, Bailey redirected an Ashley Cross shot past BC keeper Amanda Harper to knot the game at 1-1.

Another deflection, this one by Sarah Brock off of a Presha Merritt shot, put the hosts up 2-1 exactly seven minutes into the second half.

Strosser, who scored the Eagles first goal, tallied again in the 62nd minute to force the overtime and set Prillaman up for the game-winner.

Bridgewater held 17-16 and 11-6 advantages in shots and penalty corners, respectively.

Rampale had six of the game's 10 saves.

Shenandoah takes to the road Friday night for a 7 p.m. ODAC contest at Lynchburg.
