WINCHESTER, Va. – Visiting Bridgewater College scored one goal in each half on its way to a 2-0 ODAC women's soccer victory over Shenandoah Wednesday evening.
The Eagles (12-2, 7-1 ODAC) scored in the 20th and 54th minutes to down the Hornets (5-9-1, 5-4) for the first time in five seasons.
Shenandoah was 2-0-2 against BC dating back to the 2010 campaign and Wednesday's game was the first since 2007 that was decided by greater than one goal.
Mari Marotta had what proved to be the game-winner in the 20th minute when she knocked home a loose ball directly in front of the SU net.
Hornets keeper Erin Septer had come off of her line to play a ball at the top of the box and fell after colliding with a BC player as she punched the ball out.
Bridgewater was able to corral this deflection, and after Shenandoah failed to clear the ball out of the six-yard box, Marotta deposited it in the net for the game-winner.
The Eagles outshot SU 16-6 and were awarded seven of the game's nine corners.
Septer had four saves.
Shenandoah continues this homestand with a 2:00 Saturday ODAC contest against Emory and Henry.
