CRESSON, Pa. - The Shenandoah University volleyball team stepped out of conference Saturday afternoon to sweep a tri-match hosted by Mount Aloysius.
Shenandoah (12-7) defeated both host Mount Aloysius as well as Alfred (N.Y.) State by identical 3-1 scores.
The Hornets opened up the day with the Alfred (16-3) match. After the Pioneers won at 18 in the opening set, SU rebounded to sweep the match with victories at 18, 11 and 16 in the final three sets.
Senior Rachel Gross and junior Blake Parkes paced the victors in the win by posting 10 kills each.
Jasmine Callahan fueled a .352 hitting day with 23 assists while Brandi Griffith had a match-high 37 digs.
Griffith was one of four women with double digit digs. Parkes had 23, Gross 15 and Kaitlyn Kelley 12.
Coach Jaime Terenzi's club completed the day with the 3-1 victory over host Mount Aloysius (8-17).
Shenandoah outlasted the Mounties 25-23 in the opener, and after MAC evened the match at 1-1 with a 25-20 victory in the second, the Hornets won sets three and four both at 17 to clinch the victory.
Junior Allie Pieper had nine kills and Rachel Roberts eight to lead the offense.
Griffith, with 18 digs, and Kelley with 15 paced the defensive effort.
SU returns to ODAC play with a Wednesday home match versus Emory and Henry. The contest is set for a 7 p.m. start.
