Men's Soccer Shoots Down Eagles

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Shenandoah University men's soccer team snapped its 17-match ODAC losing streak with a 2-1 win at Bridgewater Wednesday afternoon.

The Hornets (4-8, 1-4 ODAC) won for the first time in league play since a 3-0 home win over Randolph-Macon on October 16, 2012.

Shenandoah never trailed in Wednesday's game, scoring the game's initial goal in the 34th minute as Caleb Baxter set up junior Eduardo Santiago.

After Bridgewater (4-9, 3-3) tied it in the 67th minute, freshman Brian Maye put SU back on top to stay with an unassisted goal at 77:19.

The Hornets then gave up two corner kicks and three shots in the final 5:48, but Shenandoah keeper Matthew Poell was not asked to make a save on either set piece or those final three attempts.

BC owned a 14-13 shot advantage and took eight of the 10 corners awarded.

Poell made five saves in earning the win.

SU is back in action at home on Saturday at 5:00 in an ODAC contest against Virginia Wesleyan.
