ARLINGTON, Va. – Host Marymount University used a sizzling second half shooting performance to drive an 89-75 non-conference men's basketball victory over Shenandoah Sunday afternoon.
The Saints (5-0) made 11 of their first 13 shots from the field, including 7 of 8 from behind the arc, start the second and pull away from SU (1-4).
MU had held a 33-31 lead at the break before expanding that advantage to 62-44 in the initial 9:41 of the second.
The hosts never led up in the final 10 minutes of the contest, eventually making 21 of its 25 second half shots (84 percent) to coast home to the 14-point victory.
The Saints shot 62 percent (32 for 52) for the game and were 13 of 21 (62 percent) on 3-point shots.
MU was 9 of 10 from behind the arc in the second half.
The lead reached a high of 22 points before the Hornets finished the game on a 23-15 run.
Senior Jared Carithers paced SU with 14 points with classmate Xavier Alston adding 12 and junior Malcolm Clark 10.
Marymount held a slight, 28-26, edge on the boards with Alston's six leading the Hornets.
Jesse Konadu had 22 points and JC Hoellich 17 for the victors.
Shenandoah continues this road trip with its ODAC opener at Bridgewater on Wednesday night. Opening tip is scheduled for 7 p.m.
