NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Shenandoah University men's basketball team completed its trip to the Big Apple Tuesday with an 81-76 non-league loss at CCNY.
CCNY (4-6) led by three points at the break and then held on as Shenandoah (1-9) fought back furiously in the final stanza.
The second half featured three ties and five lead changes and was a one-point game as late as the 50-second mark following a Xavier Alston layup.
Unfortunately for SU, the Beavers answered that bucket with four straight points from the foul line and the Hornets were unable to get closer than two points the rest of the way.
CCNY clinched the contest by scoring seven of the game's final 10 points.
Shenandoah's last lead came at the 6:00 mark following an Antwan Pittman 3-pointer.
Pittman, a junior transfer playing in his second game, paced Shenandoah with 16 points while Eli McEathron added 12, Jared Carithers 11 and Walt Moody 10.
Moody's point total is a new career high.
Pryor's club shot 40 percent from the field, including 36 percent behind the arc and saw CCNY hold a slight, 37-33, rebounding advantage.
Malcolm Clark paced the Hornets with seven boards.
Shenandoah completes non-conference play on Monday with a 7 p.m. game against former USA South Conference foe Ferrum. This game is the second half of a doubleheader with the SU women – coach Melissa Smeltzer-Kraft's Hornets host Mary Washington at 5.
