'Cats Slip Past Men

WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University men's basketball team fell just short in its ODAC men's basketball contest with Randolph College Saturday, falling 54-52 to the WildCats.

Guard Zach Desgain gave Randolph (11-8, 5-5) the winning points by canning a pair of free throws with 43 seconds remaining.

Shenandoah (11-8, 3-7) missed two 3-point attempts in the final 30 seconds and then was unable to get off a shot after gaining the final possession with five seconds remaining.

Desgain's free throws gave the 'Cats the lead in a game in which the two teams traded the lead 15 times and were tied on nine other occasions.

The two teams were within three points of each other for just more than 37 minutes of the 40-minute contest.

Senior Avery Green, who was honored as the 17th man in program history to score 1000 career points and passed Kevin Kline '11 for 12th place on the all-time SU scoring list, led all players with 26 points.

Green had nine field goals (four 3-pointers) and was 4 for 4 from the line to complete a week in which he scored 66 points in two contests.

Corey Brown had 15 points, Dylan Shifflett 12 and Mike Ehilegbu 10 for Randolph.

The 'Cats had a 34-28 advantage on the glass and outscored Shenandoah 15-2 in second chance points.

The Hornets are on the road Wednesday evening at Washington and Lee in a 7:00 ODAC contest.
