Catholic Sweeps Softball

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Catholic University banged out a total of 23 hits Sunday in sweeping a non-league softball doubleheader from Shenandoah.

CUA (10-7) was a 12-2 victor in the opening before winning the nightcap 2-1 over the Hornets (2-13).

Senior Erica Kondzielawa put SU up 1-0 in game one with a solo HR in the second before the squad plated three runs on two hits in the third.

Lindsay Corbin had an RBI single in that third inning rally.

Unfortunately for the coach Marlena Kotynski's club, Catholic responded with five runs in its half of the third, added one more in the fourth and ended the game with a six-run fifth.

Corbin (1-5) took the loss after allowing nine runs on 11 hits in 4.0 innings.

She walked two and struck out one.

CUA completed the sweep with single runs in the third and fourth innings of game two - Shenandoah made matters interesting with a Haley Koeninger HR with one out in the seventh and saw Megan Rion follow with a single, but the Cardinals induced a pair of groundouts to end the contest.

Lisa Mitro (0-2) took the loss. She gave up the two runs on nine hits and three walks in 6.0 innings.

Rion had two of the squad's seven hits.

SU is back in action on Tuesday at Mary Washington.
