WINCHESTER, Va. – Shenandoah University earned a split of its ODAC softball doubleheader with Bridgewater Tuesday night with a game two victory.
Shenandoah (2-14, 1-5 ODAC) was a 5-1 winner in the nightcap after Bridgewater (13-6-1, 5-4-1) took a 7-1 victory in the opener.
After the two teams traded single runs in the first inning of game two, the Hornets took command with two runs in the third and two more in the fifth.
The offense was more than enough for Lisa Mitro (1-2), who tossed a complete game victory. Mitro allowed the single unearned run on three hits and one walk while striking out three.
She allowed just two runners into scoring position in the final six innings of work.
Designated player Haley Koeninger paced the offense with two RBI.
SU held a 1-0 lead in the opener only to see the Eagles score seven runs on five hits, two walks and a hit batsmen in the sixth.
BC sent 11 women to the plate in the frame, chasing Shenandoah starter Lindsay Corbin (1-6) in the process.
Corbin allowed seven runs on five hits and three walks in 5 1/3 innings.
Megan Tripp retired the final five hitters and allowed one hit.
Senior Brittany Guepe had both of the hosts hits in game one. She finished 2 for 3 and scored the squad's only run.
Corbin drove in that run with a 9-3 groundout in the first.
