Baseball Rallies Past Mules

WINCHESTER, Va. - The No. 18/RV Shenandoah University baseball team completed another winning week Sunday with a 10-6 non-league victory over Muhlenberg.

Shenandoah (15-4) rallied from a four-run deficit to ruin the SU homecoming for Muhlenberg (6-8) head coach Tod Gross.

Gross, a 2002 Shenandoah grad, is in his second season as the Mules head coach. Sunday was the first time he has competed against his alma mater on the diamond.

Muhlenberg answered an SU run in the first with two in the second and three more in the fourth to take a 5-1 advantage and chase Hornets starter Phillip Morse.

Morse departed midway through the fourth after allowing five runs on three hits and six walks.

Shenandoah got back into it with a four-run sixth, and after MC scored a single run in the seventh, put up a five-spot in the bottom of that frame to take a lead it would not relinquish.

The Hornets scored a pair of insurance runs in the seventh by executing two suicide squeeze plays on consecutive pitches.

Garrett Wooddell (1-0), the third pitcher of the day for the victors, earned the win after not giving up a run in 2/3 of an inning.

Andrew Zarobila got the final five outs to close the door on the squad's 15th victory of the season.

Sophomore Billy Arens drove in three runs while J.J. McDaniel and Joe Bittner both had two hits each.

Shenandoah continues this homestand on Monday with a 3:00 non-league game against Dickinson.
