Softball Sweeps Maroons

WINCHESTER, Va. – Shenandoah University made its annual alumnae softball weekend a successful one by sweeping an ODAC doubleheader from Roanoke Saturday afternoon.

Shenandoah (5-14, 3-5 ODAC) took game one 6-3 from the Maroons (8-15, 4-6) before winning 7-1 in the nightcap.

Sophomore Megan Tripp (2-6) went the distance the opener, allowing three runs (just one earned) on four hits and three walks.

She struck out one.

The Hornets did most of their game one damage in the first, scoring five runs on three hits and three Roanoke errors.

Freshman Lindsay Corbin had a two-run single with classmate Karli Rorabaugh matching her four batters later.

SU scored its final run, an unearned run, in the sixth.

The Maroons scored one run in the second off of game two starter Lisa Mitro (2-3), but that would be it as Shenandoah clinched the sweep with a seven-run sixth.

Coach Marlena Kotynski saw 11 women come to the plate in the frame with six hitting safely.

Sophomore Kimberly Brady capped a string of five straight hits and six batters reaching base with a two-run home run to dead center.

Brady plated Rorabaugh, who had just delivered a two-run double for her third hit of the game.

Rorabaugh, Brady and Kaitlin Robinson all had two RBI in the win.

Mitro struck out six and scattered eight hits in the complete game performance.

Shenandoah is back in action on Sunday at Guilford.
