WINCHESTER, Va. - Visiting Emory & Henry produced timely hitting in sweeping a pair of ODAC softball games from Shenandoah Saturday afternoon.
Emory and Henry (20-8, 6-6 ODAC) was a 10-8 winner in the opener before winning game two 4-1 on the first of two "Senior Days" for the hosts.
Shenandoah (8-19, 6-8) had the tying run at first base in the opener only to see Brittany Guepe thrown out trying to steal second end the contest.
The Hornets appeared to be in total control of the contest thanks to a four-run second, but E&H answered with five runs in the top of the third to take the lead for good.
The Wasps put together five consecutive hits, sandwiching three triples around a pair of doubles to knock SU starter Megan Tripp (4-9) out of the contest.
Freshman Lindsay Corbin came on in relief and allowed that final double, which put the visitors up 6-4.
SU scored once in the bottom of the third only to see E&H score a total of four runs in the fourth through sixth innings to extend the lead to 10-5.
Coach Marlena Kotynski's club clawed back with one in the sixth and two more in the seventh, but stranded pinch hitter Kaitlin Robinson on third as Guepe was cut down trying to move into scoring position.
Guepe and Morgan Coble both had three hits in game one.
The Wasps completed the sweep with the 4-1 victory in game two, scoring two runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth off of game two starter Lisa Mitro (3-3).
E&H scored all four of those runs with two out, getting singles to right center on both occasions.
Guepe was again the story on offense, getting three hits in four at-bats.
Shenandoah is back in action Sunday in a 1:00 ODAC doubleheader against Sweet Briar.
