Baseball Shoots Down Falcons

WINCHESTER, Va. - No. 17/24 Shenandoah University brought itself to the cusp of the 20-win plateau with an 11-3 non-league baseball victory over Messiah Wednesday afternoon.

The Hornets (19-5) scored at least one run in the first five innings on their way to the eight-run victory over Messiah (8-7).

The offense was plenty for sophomore Phillip Morse (3-1), who tossed the opening 7.0 innings to earn the victory.

Morse allowed the three runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out four.

Brandon Corbin and Matthew Wilson both gave up just a single hit in working the eighth and ninth, respectively.

Designated hitter Nolan Overby led a 16-hit attack with a 2 for 4, four RBI day that included two home runs.

Michael Paul led the offense with four hits in five at-bats and in the process extended his hitting streak to 26 games.

Billy Arens and Daniel Freshley both had three hits to back up Overby and Paul.

After hitting a two-run HR in the first, Overby led off the SU third with a solo shot to left that proved to be the game-winning run.

Paul had singles in the first, fifth and eighth to go along with a double to center in the third.

Shenandoah continues non-league play with a game at Catholic tomorrow afternoon.
