HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. – Host Hampden-Sydney kept its ODAC record perfect with a 16-9 men's lacrosse victory over Shenandoah Saturday afternoon.
Shenandoah (5-8, 1-4 ODAC) scored the initial goal of the game on a Drew Brooks to Stephen Latona tally at the 11:15 mark, but H-SC (7-4, 5-0) had an answer.
The Tigers scored the next five goals of the game in a span of 5:16 to take a lead they would not relinquish.
Brooks and Frank Tejera, on unassisted goals at 4:56 and 1:30, respectively, cut the deficit to 5-3 before Hampden-Sydney scored with 46 seconds to go to take a 6-3 lead after one.
This goal started a four-goal run for the hosts that gave Hampden-Sydney a 9-3 lead at the 6:43 mark of the second.
The Hornets would get no closer than four goals the rest of the way.
Latona led SU with five goals while Tejera added a goal and three assists.
Brooks rounded out the multiple point scorers with a goal and two assists.
H-SC outshot the Hornets 55-34, scooped up 48 of the game's 70 groundballs and won 21 of 28 faceoffs.
Freshman Ben Judy made 14 saves in the losing effort.
Shenandoah continues this road trip with a 3:00 game next Saturday at Randolph-Macon.
