Softball Sweeps Guilford

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Shenandoah University softball team ran its winning streak to five games by sweeping an ODAC doubleheader from Guilford Sunday afternoon.

Shenandoah (7-14, 5-5 ODAC) was an 8-3 victor in the opener before taking out GC (21-7, 5-6-6) 9-4 in the nightcap.

SU scored three runs in the first inning of game one to take a lead it would not relinquish against the Quakers.

Freshman Lindsay Corbin got matters started with a two-run home run, her fifth of the season, in the first, before the Hornets sandwiched one run innings in the fifth and seventh around a three-run sixth.

SU had 10 hits in the game with Heather Sink leading the way with a 3 for 3 performance that included two RBI and two runs scored.

Corbin and Morgan Coble both had two hits.

Sophomore Megan Tripp (3-6) allowed the three runs (one earned) on five hits and one walk in the complete game victory.

The Hornets scored three runs in the second, another three in the third and one in the fourth to take a commanding 7-0 lead in game two.

GC made things interesting with four runs in the fourth off of SU starter Lisa Mitro (3-3), but Tripp came on for the save and the coach Marlena Kotynski's club had its second ODAC sweep in as many days.

Mitro had four strikeouts in four innings and gave up the four runs on four hits and four walks.

Tripp was perfect in earning the save.

Sink, Brittany Guepe, Kimberly Brady and Helen Good all had two hits in the win with Good, Guepe and Coble all driving in two runs each.

SU continues this road trip with a doubleheader at Eastern Mennonite on Wednesday.
