HARRISONBURG, Va. - The Shenandoah University softball team continued its quest for an ODAC Tournament berth Wednesday by splitting a doubleheader with host Eastern Mennonite.
Shenandoah (8-15, 6-6 ODAC) rebounded from a 3-0 loss to the Royals (11-13-1, 5-6-1) in the opener to take the nightcap 8-3 in eight innings.
SU scored two runs in the first inning of game two and a single run in the fourth only to see EMU tie the contest with two runs of its own in the second and a single run in the sixth.
After the two teams were held off the board in the seventh, coach Marlena Kotynski's club scored five runs on four hits in the eighth to claim the victory.
Freshman Ashlyn Drake had a two-run single to center to start the scoring before sophomore Kimberly Brady singled to right to bring in another two runs two batters after Drake's hit.
The final run, scored by Brady, came home on a Heather Sink double down the left field line.
Sophomore Megan Tripp (4-7) came on in relief of Lisa Mitro in the sixth to earn the victory.
Tripp gave up two hits and walked one while striking out one in her three innings of work.
Sink, Brady and Erica Kondzielawa led a 13-hit attack with four, three and three hits, respectively.
Brady and Kondzielawa both scored two runs.
The Hornets were held to just five hits, including two by Tripp, in game one.
Tripp took the loss after allowing the three runs on nine hits and one walk.
Shenandoah hosts Messiah on Thursday in a non-league doubleheader beginning at 3:30.
