DEMOREST, Ga. – No. 13/16 Shenandoah University saw its baseball season come to an end Saturday afternoon with a 12-8 loss to No. 22 Emory University in the loser's bracket final of the Demorest Regional.

Emory (32-11) scored eight runs in the first to provide enough offense to down the Hornets (33-11) and advance to the regional championship against Bridgewater.

Shenandoah refused to fold its collective tent, however, and clawed back into it with one run in the third and two each in the fifth, sixth and eighth innings.

In the eighth, SU scored the two runs and had the bases loaded with one out only to see EU reliever Kyle Monk prevent further damage with a strikeout and a groundout to second.

Monk recorded the final five outs to post his fourth save of the season.

Emory would score its final four runs in the bottom half of the eighth to secure the victory.

The Eagles took that commanding 8-0 lead by scoring seven runs on five hits and two walks off of Hornets starter Phillip Morse (3-5).

Morse left after facing eight batters, turning it over to senior lefty Andrew Zarobila.

Zirobila, making his third appearance of the regional, was outstanding in the final outing of his career.

The southpaw allowed the final run in the first and the initial two runs in the eighth, but otherwise stymied Emory and kept Shenandoah in the ballgame.

Zarobila allowed the three runs on 11 hits and one walk in 6 2/3 innings of work.

Matt Riegler recorded the final three outs of the game.

The two teams split 38 hits with SU seeing all but one of its nine starters get at least one hit.

Junior Michael Paul, the 2014 ODAC Player of the Year and a candidate for All-America honors, led the Hornets offense with a 3 for 3 day that included two walks.

Andrew Creamer and Dan Powers both had four hits in the final games of their careers with Creamer also driving in two runs.

Classmate Joe Bittner also drove in two runs.

The 2015 schedule will be announced later this summer.
