CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Host Washington College snapped Shenandoah University's two-match men's soccer winning streak with a 3-1 non-conference victory Saturday afternoon.
WC (2-1) converted a penalty kick in the 65th minute take the lead for good over the Hornets (2-2) before getting an insurance goal with nine minutes to play.
In the 33rd minute, junior Eduardo Santiago had brought the game back to level for SU when he finished off a double assist from Caleb Baxter and Brian Maye.
Shenandoah needed that equalizer as the Shoremen struck first in the 18th minute on a Brian Wilkinson tally.
Hornets goalkeeper Matthew Poell had five saves as WC peppered him with 27 shots.
The hosts also won nine of 11 corners in the contest.
The SU men open ODAC play on Wednesday evening with a 7 p.m. contest at Roanoke.
