WINCHESTER, Va. – Visiting Bridgewater College completed a season sweep of the Shenandoah University Hornets in men's basketball with a 76-67 ODAC victory Wednesday evening.
The Eagles (9-7, 4-3 ODAC) led for exactly 35 minutes of the 40-minute contest to finish off SU (1-15, 0-7).
Despite trailing for the majority of the contest, Shenandoah stayed within striking distance through out and was within one possession as late as the 5:09 mark of the contest.
Trailing 62-59 following an Antwan Pittman 3-pointer, the Hornets saw BC seal the victory by scoring eight of the game's next nine points over a span of 2:57.
Shenandoah would come no closer than seven points the rest of the way.
The last time SU trailed by seven was the 26-second mark following a Malcolm Clark layup, but Bridgewater made four of its final six from the line to clinch the victory.
BC, which scored exactly 50 percent of its points from in the paint, had a 22-10 second half advance in paint points to help its cause.
The Eagles had a 47-41 advantage on the glass, including a 30-14 bulge on the Shenandoah offensive end.
Ed Reddick led five Bridgewater players in double figures with 17 points while Clark had a game-high 19 points for the hosts.
Xavier Alston and Nik Stewart backed up Clark with 12 points each. For Stewart, that is a new career high.
SU shot 36 percent to the Eagles 41.
Shenandoah hosts Hampden-Sydney on Saturday at 4 p.m. in an ODAC contest.
