'Cats Claw Men

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Host Randolph College completed a season sweep of the Shenandoah University men's basketball team with a 76-56 ODAC win Saturday afternoon.

The WildCats (11-8, 5-5 ODAC) led for all but the opening 52 seconds of the game in securing the win over Shenandoah (2-17, 1-9).

Randolph scored the initial 14 points of the game, holding SU off the board until freshman Henry Sorsaia drained a 3-pointer at the 15:17 mark of the first.

Sorsaia's bucket jump-started an 8-2 run for the Hornets that allowed the visitors to cut the deficit to eight points following a Walt Moody 3-pointer at the 12:13 mark.

The 'Cats then answered by scoring 26 of the final 37 points of the half to take a 42-19 lead at the break.

With the comfortable lead, Randolph stepped on the gas to start the second, outscoring Shenandoah 13-7 in the first 3:32 of the stanza to put the margin out to 29 points.

The lead would remain at least 20 points the rest of the way and SU cut it to that 20-point margin thanks to a 10-4 run over the final 4:34 of the contest.

Sophomore Aaron Patterson had a team-high 12 points for the Hornets, who played 16 men in the contest.

Four WildCats players registered at least 10 points with Gordon Rogo and Jason Eddie each chipping in 16.

Randolph shot 52 percent to 40 percent for SU and also owned a 30-25 advantage on the glass.

Shenandoah returns home on Wednesday in a 7 p.m. game against Roanoke.
