WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's basketball team completed its non-conference slate Monday evening with an 83-44 loss to regional power Mary Washington.
The Eagles (8-3) used a 60-29 advantage on the glass to lead throughout over the Hornets (5-6).
UMW scored 42 of the game's 58 points in the paint and had a 24-8 advantage in second chance points to help itself cruise to its 20th win in the all-time series between the two schools.
Shenandoah rebounded from a tough first half (23 percent shooting on 7 of 30 attempts) to shoot 36 percent in the second.
Freshman Kirstyn Arcata paced the hosts with 15 points with Holly Chittenden adding eight to go along with six rebounds.
Coach Melissa Smeltzer-Kraft saw six of the seven women she had play in the contest register at least three points each.
Brianne Comden had 22 points and Aubrey Howland 20 for the victors.
Comden also had a game-high 14 rebounds.
SU returns to ODAC play on Wednesday with a 7 p.m. game at Randolph before returning home on Saturday to host Guilford.
