Women's Soccer Wins Seventh Straight

HARRISONBURG, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's soccer team extended its winning streak to seven games Tuesday afternoon with a 2-1 ODAC victory at Eastern Mennonite.

Senior Danielle Burris needed just 18 seconds to give the Hornets (10-6, 7-1 ODAC) a lead they would not relinquish over EMU (1-13, 0-7).

Burris tallied her sixth goal of the season as she pushed the ball down the left side and the launched her shot that deflected in off of the right post.

At 23:54, Alysha McCleaf headed home an Allison Shomo cross that ended up as the game-winning tally.

Despite dominating the game, taking 36 of the game's 39 shots and nine of 10 corners, SU found itself in battle after failing on a penalty kick early in the second half and then giving up goal in the 69th minute.

The goal, off of a direct kick, snapped the Hornets scoreless streak at 766:32.

EMU also had a chance in the final minute, but Morgan Hill's shot went safely over the crossbar.

"We played a number of people today," Shenandoah head coach Liz Pike said. "It wasn't our best performance, but we got a win. We are going to have to play much better on Friday if we expect to compete."

Shenandoah returns home Friday night at 7 p.m. for an important ODAC contest against league leader and defending national champion Lynchburg College. An SU win would vault Pike's team into a first place tie in the league.
