BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Host Bridgewater College used a late goal to top Shenandoah University 2-1 in ODAC field hockey action Wednesday evening.
Alenka Ferrufino scored in the 64th minute to push Bridgewater (9-7, 5-1 ODAC) past the Hornets (10-6, 5-2).
The loss makes SU the fourth seed in the upcoming six-team ODAC Tournament; coach Ashley Smeltzer-Kraft's club will host the fifth-seed (likely Randolph-Macon or Virginia Wesleyan) in the opening round of the tournament.
After BC scored the opening goal in the 27th minute, sophomore Elizabeth Pardo brought the game back to level with her unassisted goal at 46:29.
The goal is Pardo's team-leading 10th of the season.
The one-goal victory for Bridgewater marks the eighth straight meeting over the past seven years that the two teams have played a one-goal contest.
The two teams split 22 shots with Shenandoah taking six of the game's eight corners.
Hornets goalkeeper Jessica Brown had six saves.
Official pairings for the tournament will be announced Sunday.
