Men Advance to Championship

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University men's basketball team will play for the BB&T Classic championship for the third time in four years Sunday afternoon after defeating Franciscan (Ohio) 71-50 Saturday night.

Shenandoah (3-2) led throughout the game, scoring the first seven points of the contest and pushing its advantage over the Barons (0-3) permanently into double digits by the 7:07 mark of the first.

SU led by 22, 39-17, at halftime before extending the lead to 26 points at the midway point of the second.

That lead did not dip below 16 points over the final 25:51.

Coach Rob Pryor played 17 players Saturday evening and just one, point guard E.J. Baltimore, hit the 30-minute mark.

Senior Antwan Pittman led the victors with 15 points off the bench with Baltimore and Aaron Patterson adding 11 each.

Eleven of the 17 players who saw action scored at least two points.

The 21-point victory puts the Hornets into a 4:00 championship contest against William Peace Sunday afternoon. In a game that featured 17 lead changes and 11 ties, the Pacers outlasted Elizabethtown 70-66 in the opening game of the tournament.

Shenandoah shot 42 percent (29 of 69) for the game and outscored Franciscan 42-22 in the paint.

John Paul Dombrowski had a game-high 20 points for the Barons.

E-Town will face Franciscan in Sunday's 2 p.m. consolation contest.
