WINCHESTER, Va. - Top-seeded Washington and Lee University advanced to the ODAC Field Hockey Tournament semi-finals by rallying for a 3-2 victory over Shenandoah Friday afternoon.
The Generals (11-6) scored three straight times in the middle of the second half to take a lead they would not relinquish over Shenandoah (11-7).
Freshman Kayla Alderman opened the game's scoring for the Hornets at 28:54 by knocking her shot off of a W&L defender and in.
The goal was Alderman's sixth of the season.
Washington & Lee, which fell 2-1 in double OT to SU in the regular season matchup, brought the game back to level on a Haley Tucker goal at 49:55.
The Generals then scored at 58:06 and 60:39, the former coming from Tucker, to take the commanding two-goal lead.
Senior Presha Merritt tallied off of a Sarah Brock penalty corner insertion at 62:37 to put Shenandoah back into it, but the Hornets were not able to get the equalizing goal.
W&L held its visitors without a shot following Merritt's goal.
Shenandoah outshot the Generals 14-11 while the two teams split six corners.
The two goalkeepers, Jessica Brown and Ariyel Yavalar, split eight saves.
Alana Meadows also had a defensive save for the Hornets.
SU will announce its 2016 schedule in January.
