Roanoke Upsets Women's Soccer

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Sixth-seeded Roanoke scored the game's lone goal in the second half on its way to a 1-0 upset victory over second-seeded Shenandoah Saturday afternoon in the ODAC Women's Soccer Tournament semi-finals.

Lauren O'Brien finished off a Linnea Kremer cross in the 77th minute to give Roanoke (11-7-2) the upset win over Shenandoah (13-7-1).

The goal completed a contest in which the Maroons took 15 of the game's 21 shots, including 10 of 13 in the first half.

The two teams split 10 corner kicks.

Shenandoah keeper Erin Septer had seven saves to help keep her side in it.

"We battled but got outplayed today," Hornets coach Liz Pike said.

"We had a great season but were beaten by a better team this afternoon."

The upset victory sends RC into Sunday's 2:30 championship game against top-seeded Lynchburg. LC defeated fourth-seeded Virginia Wesleyan 4-0 in the first semi-final of the day.

Shenandoah will announce its 2015 schedule in January.
