WINCHESTER, Va. – Visiting Randolph College erased a six-point halftime deficit on its way to a 72-67 ODAC men's basketball victory over Shenandoah Wednesday evening.
Shenandoah (3-4, 0-1 ODAC) held a 35-29 lead at the break, but could only watch as the WildCats (4-1, 1-1) scored 10 of the first 12 points of the second to take its first lead of the game.
Gordon Rogo, who led the 'Cats with 18 points, gave Randolph that lead with his jumper at 16:29.
Junior Malcolm Clark answered for the Hornets with a layup 31 seconds later to knot the game at 39-39 but SU was unable to retake the lead but RC had an answer.
Randolph reeled off another run, this one 12-4, to expand the lead out to eight points with 12:54 left before Shenandoah roared back to tie at 51-51 at the 11:08.
Unfortunately for the Shingleton Gymnasium capacity crowd, the 'Cats got a Josh Freund jumper off of a Rogo assist on their next trip down the floor and Randolph remained in front the rest of the way.
The Hornets last grasp came thanks to a 9-2 spurt over a 4:15 span that cut the 'Cats advantage to just one, 68-67, with 13 seconds remaining.
SU fouled on the ensuing possession and Seth Wimbish hit a pair for Randolph, giving the visitors a 70-67 lead with :11 showing on the clock.
Following a time-out, Shenandoah missed a 3-point attempt from the top of the key and Corey Brown canned a pair from the line for the 'Cats to seal the win.
Clark led all scorers with 21 points with Aaron Patterson adding 11 and E.J. Baltimore eight with eight assists, four rebounds and four steals.
Wimbish backed up Rogo with 14 points.
SU is off until next Thursday, December 12, in a 7 p.m. ODAC contest at Roanoke.
