LYNCHBURG, Va. – Host Lynchburg College used an outstanding shooting performance to key a 111-79 victory over Shenandoah in the opening round of the ODAC Men's Basketball Tournament Monday evening.
Fifth-seeded Lynchburg (17-9) shot a sizzling 65 percent (40 of 62), including 68 percent (13 of 19) from behind the arc to eliminate No. 12 Shenandoah (4-22) from the conference tournament.
LC wasted little time in jumping all over its fellow Hornets, scoring 15 of the game's initial 20 points and 28 of the first 39 on its way to the win.
Shenandoah cut the deficit to eight points on two occasions, following Antwan Pittman and Kyle Murph jumpers in the middle of the stanza, before Lynchburg took absolute control with an 11-0 run from the 13:31 to 11:04 marks.
SU was able to outscore its hosts 23-22 over the final 9:03 of the first, but the damage was done.
Lynchburg did not let its lead dip below 19 points in the final 20 minutes and expanded its lead out to 35 points by the 5:15 mark.
Austen Arnold had a game-high 29 points for the victors with Daniel Rowe adding 18, AJ Hamilton 14 and Alex Graves 12.
Aaron Patterson paced Shenandoah with 22 points, Malcolm Clark had 14, Eli McEathron 11 and Kelsey Thomas a season-high 10 points.
