BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's basketball team saw its 2014-15 season come to an end Tuesday evening with a 72-53 loss to Bridgewater in the first round of the ODAC Tournament.
Eighth-seeded Bridgewater (13-12) took a 38-31 lead into the halftime break before pulling away from Shenandoah (7-19) midway through the second.
The Hornets, on the strength of three straight points from senior Holly Chittenden, cut the BC lead to five points, 51-46, with 12:36 remaining.
The Eagles then responded by scoring the game's next nine points over a span of 5:36 to take a 60-46 lead and essentially seal the victory.
Bridgewater did not allow its lead to shrink into single digits the rest of the way and secured its advancement to the ODAC Tournament quarterfinals by holding SU without a field goal for the final 4:57.
Shenandoah's final three points of the year came on Breya Wallace and Erin French free throws in the final minute of the game.
Chittenden and Kirstyn Arcata both had 15 points for coach Melissa Smeltzer-Kraft with French pulling down 11 rebounds.
BC had five players in double figures, led by Jessi Strom's 17 points.
Shenandoah will announce its 2015-16 schedule in May.
