FREDERICK, Md. – The Shenandoah University men's lacrosse team earned its third victory of the season with an 11-7 non-league win over Hood College Saturday afternoon.
Shenandoah (3-1) scored the opening two goals of the game and never trailed in winning its first away contest of the year.
Hood (1-1) tied the game at 2-2, 3-3 and 4-4 before the Hornets sandwiched a four-goal run around halftime to take a lead they would not relinquish.
Senior Aaron Paul started the spurt with a goal off of a Tilghman Sanders assist at the 6:10 mark of the second before Kyle Savage scored unassisted at 1:53.
Paul and sophomore Stephen LaTona opened the second half scoring with unassisted tallies at 12:43 and 10:27, respectively, with LaTona's goal proving to be the game-winner.
The Blazers were able to cut their deficit in half with goals at 5:30 and 4:54 of the third before Sanders finished off a Paul feed on EMO to close out the third quarter scoring.
Shenandoah, on LaTona and Paul goals, would expand its lead to five, 11-6, by the 10:43 mark of the fourth.
Hood scored the final goal of the game 22 seconds before the final horn.
Paul led all scorers with four goals and one assist for five points while Sanders had two goals and two assists and Savage two goals and one assist.
Sophomore Ben Judy made 11 saves in earning the win.
Shenandoah outshot its hosts 36-32 with Hood winning 12 of 21 faceoffs and scooping up 43 of the game's 71 groundballs.
SU continues this road swing with a Thursday non-league game at Susquehanna.
