BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Shenandoah University softball team earned its first two victories of the season Wednesday afternoon by sweeping an ODAC doubleheader from Bridgewater.
Shenandoah (2-6, 2-2 ODAC) was a 2-0 victor in the opener before taking the nightcap 7-4 in eight innings over the Eagles (5-5, 0-2).
Junior Megan Tripp (2-3) tossed a complete game three-hitter in the opener before getting the win in relief in game two.
Tripp actually started the second game, pitched the first inning and then the seventh and eighth to get the victory.
Tripp struck out four and did not walk a batter in earning the game one victory.
Shenandoah gave Tripp all of the run support she would need by plating an unearned run in the third.
Haley Koeninger led off with a double to left, and after advancing to third on an infield error, came home on Nicole Pierson's groundout to short.
In the seventh, a leadoff double led to an insurance run.
Kimberly Brady doubled to center and scored on an Ashlyn Drake single.
In game two, the Hornets scored two runs in the second and two in the third before the Eagles answered with two in the fourth and two more in the fifth.
Shenandoah then scored three runs on three hits, the big one a Lindsay Corbin two-run HR, in the eighth to close out the sweep.
Corbin had three hits and scored three runs in the game two victory.
Tripp struck out one and walked two in game two with Lisa Mitro allowing the four runs on seven hits.
Mitro struck out four.
SU opens up its home slate on Thursday with a 3 p.m. non-league doubleheader against Gettysburg.
