WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University softball team opened up its home schedule Thursday afternoon by splitting a non-league doubleheader with Gettysburg.

Shenandoah (3-7) snapped Gettysburg's nine-game winning streak with a 7-6 victory in the opener before the Bullets were 10-0 victors in the nightcap.

The Hornets, thanks to two runs in the first and single runs in the second and third innings of game one, had a 4-2 lead over GC but needed a sixth inning two-run double from Lindsay Corbin to secure the victory.

Trailing 6-5 after the Bullets chased SU starter Megan Tripp with two runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings, Corbin came through with a two-out double to right center that plated Madison Bradley and Kimberly Brady from second and first base, respectively.

Bradley reached on a one-out single to left before Brady's comebacker to GC pitcher Lindsey Treanor (4-2) eliminated Megan Vanderburgh at third for the second out of the frame.

Corbin then laced the double, scoring Bradley with the tying run and Brady with the winner.

Corbin's hit was one of three she had in game one; she also drove in three and scored twice.

Lisa Mitro (1-1), who pitched three innings of scoreless relief, was the winning pitcher.

Bradley and Ashlyn Drake both had two hits to back up Corbin.

GC salvaged the split with two runs in the first and four more in both the fourth and fifth to end the contest early.

Corbin (0-3) took the loss after allowing the 10 runs (eight earned) on 12 hits and four walks. She also had two of the Hornets four game two hits.

Shenandoah is back in action at home Saturday afternoon in a non-league doubleheader against Christopher Newport. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
