Quakers Run Past Men's Lax

WINCHESTER, Va. - Visiting Guilford College used a strong second quarter to key a 25-12 ODAC men's lacrosse victory over Shenandoah Saturday afternoon.

The Quakers (5-1, 1-1 ODAC) scored 10 of the 11 goals in the second stanza to pull away from Shenandoah (4-5, 0-2).

GC started the game quickly, jumping out to a 4-0 lead thanks to four goals in a span of just 2:21 early in the first.

Sophomore Tilghman Sanders, who ended the day with four goals and four assists for the Hornets, finally snapped this opening string with his goal off of a Stephen LaTona assist at the 9:33 mark of the first.

Guilford answered by closing the first on a 3-1 run, including a Adam Fiore goal just seven second prior to the quarter-ending horn.

Fiore's goal, one of five he had on the day, started a six-goal run for the Quakers that made the score 12-2 in favor of the hosts 6:16 before halftime.

LaTona, who had two goals and an assist on the day, broke up the GC scoring run by finishing off a Jack Greaney assist at the 4:43 mark.

Guilford closed out the first half by scoring five goals in the final 3:32 of the second quarter.

Shenandoah would outscore its visitors 9-8 over the final 30 minutes with six different Hornets registering at least one goal.

Sanders led the Hornets with four goals and four assists for eight points with LaTona and Aaron Paul both scoring two goals and dishing out one assist.

Connor Bishop had two goals for the hosts.

GC outshot SU 64-42, had a 52-28 advantage in groundballs and won 30 of 41 faceoffs. Connor Manning was particularly effective for the Quakers at the 'x', winning 23 of 29 draws.

Goalkeeper Ben Judy had 18 saves for the hosts.

The Hornets are off until traveling to Virginia Wesleyan next Saturday for a 1 p.m. ODAC contest.
