ASHLAND, Va. - Shenandoah University earned its fourth softball victory of the week by splitting an ODAC doubleheader with Randolph-Macon Sunday afternoon.
Shenandoah (4-10, 3-3 ODAC) salvaged a split of the doubleheader with a 4-3 victory in game two after Randolph-Macon (7-3, 2-2) was a 9-1 winner in the opener.
Sophomore Haley Koeninger was the hero in the nightcap by hitting a solo HR in the first and driving in the first run of a three-run third.
Lindsay Corbin and Lisa Mitro also drove in runs in the third with singles to center and through the left side, respectively.
Mitro (2-2) tossed the first 6.0 innings to earn her second win of the spring. She allowed three runs on eight hits and one walk.
Corbin posted the save after working the seventh. Corbin gave up a leadoff single and eventually saw Macon load the bases, but induced a game-ending fly to center.
Koeninger led that game two offense with two of the Hornets eight hits.
Koeninger also had the game one RBI with a fourth inning single to center that scored Madison Bradley from second. Bradley had led off that frame with a double to center.
Megan Tripp (2-5) took the game one loss. She allowed four runs on six hits and three walks in 4.0 innings of work.
Shenandoah is back in action on Wednesday in a non-league doubleheader against Frostburg State.
