WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University softball team earned its third doubleheader split in the past four outings Wednesday afternoon after splitting a non-league pair with Frostburg State.
After dropping a 12-10 decision in eight innings in the opener, Shenandoah (5-11) came back to win 2-1 in the nightcap over the Bobcats (9-4).
Senior Madison Bradley had the game-winning hit in the nightcap, drilling a double to left center to score pinch runner Melissa Brooks from second.
Third baseman Victoria Minor had led off the SU seventh with a walk before Brooks replaced her.
Brooks moved into scoring position on a Megan Vanderburgh walk, setting the table for Bradley to get the game-winning hit.
Bradley's hit was one of two she had in game two - she and Lindsay Corbin both had two hits with Corbin knocking in the squad's first run with a single to left center in the first.
Lisa Mitro (2-2) earned the win after throwing a complete game four-hitter. Mitro struck out five and walked two.
Shenandoah found itself down 3-0 before it took the plate in game one, but scored five runs in its half of the frame and led 6-3 after scoring one run in the second.
FSU rallied with two runs in the third, fourth and sixth and one in the seventh before the Hornets sent it to extras with a two-run seventh.
The Bobcats won the game with two runs on three hits in the eighth.
Corbin was 4 for 5 with three RBI at the plate while Kimberly Brady and Kristen Weadon both had two hits.
Brady also drove in three on a bases-clearing triple to right in the first.
Corbin (0-4) took the loss in relief; she allowed five runs (three earned) on six hits and one walk in 5.0 innings of work.
She also struck out five.
Shenandoah is back in action on Saturday at home in a 1:30 ODAC doubleheader versus Guilford.
