WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Shenandoah University softball team dropped its opening doubleheader of the season, losing 11-1 and 7-2 at Salem College Sunday afternoon.
Freshman Megan Vanderburgh paced SU (0-2) with four hits on the day; she was 2 for 2 with a walk in game one.
Vanderburgh's classmate, Victoria Minor, had a two-run single in the sixth inning of the opener.
Salem (3-3-2) scored three runs in the first inning of game two, added another in the second and broke the game open with a seven-run fourth.
Vanderburgh drove in the Hornets lone game two run with a double in the third.
Lindsay Corbin (0-1) was tagged with the game two loss after allowing 11 runs (six earned) on 10 hits and six walks in 3 2/3 innings of work.
In the opener, Megan Tripp (0-1) took the loss after allowing five runs on six hits and four walks in 3.0 innings. Tripp struck out one before turning it over to Lisa Mitro for the final three innings.
Mitro allowed two runs on three hits and one walk.
Shenandoah is back in action tomorrow with an ODAC doubleheader at Lynchburg.
