WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University softball team earned its second ODAC doubleheader split Wednesday by taking one of two from Eastern Mennonite.
Shenandoah (6-16, 4-8 ODAC) was a 4-2 winner in the opener before EMU (11-7, 6-6) answered back with an 11-1 win in the nightcap.
The Hornets rode the pitching arm of sophomore Lindsay Corbin (1-6) to the game one victory.
Corbin went the distance, scattering six hits and walking three against four strikeouts to earn her first victory of the season.
Offensively, Corbin helped herself by driving in the Hornets first two runs with a two-out double into the right center gap in the third.
One batter later, she trotted home on Kimberly Brady's HR to dead center.
Eastern Mennonite made matters interesting with two runs in the sixth and putting the leadoff hitter on in the seventh, but Corbin got out of it with a strikeout and two infield pop ups.
Her defense played well behind her, turning inning ending double plays in the second and third.
The Royals sent 10 women to the plate in the first inning of the nightcap, scoring six runs, and added four more in the second on the way to the five-inning victory.
Brady had the hosts' game two RBI with a single in the first that scored Lisa Mitro from third.
Mitro (3-5) gave up the 11 runs (seven earned) on eight hits and three walks.
She struck out three in the complete game.
Shenandoah takes to the road this Friday for a 3 p.m. ODAC doubleheader at Randolph.
